About Okapi Gaming Lab
A small, focused repair shop for one very specific kind of frustration: stick drift, and everything else that goes wrong with a controller you actually rely on.
Why we exist
Practical electronics repair experience, a genuine gaming habit, and one too many controllers ruined by drift.
Okapi Gaming Lab started from the same place a lot of repair shops do: knowing how to fix things, and getting tired of throwing away controllers that were otherwise fine except for one worn-out part. Stick drift in particular is almost always fixable — a worn analog module, not a dead controller — but most players don't have the tools, the parts, or the time to fix it themselves. We do. So instead of one more controller in a drawer (or a landfill), we built a shop around fixing it properly: real parts, a documented test pass, and a written warranty, every time.
Why "Okapi"?
An okapi is a real animal — closer to a giraffe than anything else, striped like a zebra, and not very well known outside of Central Africa and a handful of zoos. It's a little unusual, a little overlooked, and not what you'd expect at first glance. That felt like a fitting mascot for a controller repair shop: a niche thing, done with real care, by people who actually know what they're doing — not the obvious choice, but the right one once you look closer. The name (and the okapi on our logo) is also a nod to Angela Okapi, whose own corner of the internet helped inspire the name — see Creators, Affiliates & Community Partners for the full story.
How we work
Three things we don't compromise on, on any order.
Clear pricing
Starting prices are posted, not hidden behind a "call us." You get a real, itemized quote before any paid work starts — see Services & Pricing.
Careful repairs
Real parts (Hall Effect and TMR sticks included), not the cheapest part that fits. Every job is diagnosed before it's quoted — we don't guess.
Repeatable testing
Every repair runs through the same input test checklist before it ships — not a once-over, the same documented pass every time, backed by a written warranty.
